The AI Job & Small
Business Extinction
Briefing

Why as many as 4 out of 5 jobs and local businesses could disappear — and what we can do now before it’s too late

By Barry Blake

This is for people already feeling the pressure.I’m not sharing this to frighten you.I’m sharing this because many people are already feeling the pressure.Losing income, losing certainty, or sensing something isn’t right. And if that’s you, you need to understand what’s happening before it accelerates.

Part 1 explains the problem:
The disruption of jobs and small businesses driven by artificial intelligence and automation.

Part 2 explains the solution:
The only income model we can find that remains viable when the old system breaks down.

This first report is about clarity. No comforting stories.Just the truth every working person needs to understand. Now, not later. We have just got time to get educated and act.Doing nothing won’t be an option.

THE SHIFT NO ONE IS READY FOR

Most people still think of AI as a tool.Something interesting.Something for “tech people.”ChatGPT. Gemini. Anthropic.Something that helps write better emails.Something they’ll pay attention to later. But the reality is very different. And serious.

The people building AI...
not journalists
not futurists...
... but the people actually building the systems that will replace hundreds of millions of jobs, are warning that society is completely unprepared. The public thinks we have decades. But the people closest to this technology say we only have a few short years.Possibly less.Because AI isn’t just improving industries. It is already replacing the very foundations those industries sit on.We are entering a world where the majority of traditional income pathways simply won’t exist anymore.

THE JOB EXTINCTION EVENT

AI isn’t nibbling around the edges.Once it becomes “good enough” it doesn’t just replace jobs.It erases entire job categories.Entire industries. In just the last 500 days, AI has become capable of:

• writing software
• designing branding
• editing media
• generating marketing content
• analysing legal and financial documents
• producing medical insights
• automating customer support
• performing intricate surgical operations
• replacing admin functions
• creating photorealistic images and video
• cloning voices, faces, and mannerisms
• negotiating contracts and pricing
• running end-to-end business processes

And this is only the first wave. The "kindergarten phase".Businesses are using AI to replace:
— entire divisions
— whole departments
— teams of contractors
Not because they want to.But because if they don’t — they won’t survive.

This is why the job extinction event will hit like lightning.Much faster than most people are expecting.

WHAT THE EXPERTS ARE SAYING

Dr. Geoffrey Hinton:
“This will be far more disruptive than the Industrial Revolution.”
Sam Altman:
“Most people won’t have jobs in the future.”
Elon Musk:
“AI will be able to do everything. Jobs will become optional.”
Yann LeCun:
“Automation will exceed society’s ability to adapt.”
Andrew Ng:
“Entire professions will be reshaped or replaced.”
Arvind Krishna:
“We expect to replace tens of thousands of roles with AI.”
Mo Gawdat:
“Jobs will disappear far faster than society can cope with.”
Vinod Khosla:
“AI could eliminate up to 80% of jobs.”
MIT Technology Review:
“AI is eliminating mid-skill jobs faster than any technology in history.”
World Economic Forum:
“Millions of roles are at risk.”
Diary of a CEO:
“The public has no clue what’s coming.”
The pattern is unmistakable.Disruption on a scale we have never seen.

THE RETRAINING MYTH

When people realise their job is at risk, they think: “I’ll retrain.”Two problems.1. AI is moving toward doing everything humans can do.Once it reaches Artificial General Intelligence — prediction two years — it will match us in:
— creativity
— intuition
— problem-solving
— even emotional intelligence
What do we pivot to when the threat comes from every direction?2. Humans retrain slowly. AI improves instantly.By the time you retrain… AI will already be there. Waiting for you.Every escape path gets swallowed:• Writers became editors → AI edits• Editors became proofreaders → AI proofs• Designers became prompt engineers → AI generates its own promptsThere is no retraining model fast enough to keep up.

WHAT ABOUT STARTING A BUSINESS?

People think: “I’ll work for myself.”Normally — a great option, but in an AI-driven collapse this will become extremely difficult. You’ll compete with AI-powered businesses with near-zero costsAnd even if you compete, your potential customers won’t have money anyway. No job → no income → no spending.Self-employment is limited by time. But AI runs 24/7.At scale. Most of the industries people will pivot into are already starting to be absorbed.Self-employment won’t save us.

A real-time example:
Autonomous transport is developing and rolling out rapidly.
Costs are predicted to drop from 60–80 cents per mile to around 20 cents by removing the most expensive part: the human driver.Impact spreads across:

• ride-share
• taxis
• delivery
• insurance
• parking
• servicing industries
• freight/couriers

And this pattern repeats everywhere. When cost collapses — industries collapse.

THE INCOME COLLAPSE

The real danger isn’t job loss, it’s what comes after.Less income → less spending
→ more closures
→ more job loss
→ even less spending
All backup plans fail at once:

• no jobs
• no customers
• AI undercutting freelancers
• retraining too slow
• no disposable income

UNIVERSAL BASIC INCOME (UBI)

Governments are proposing a survival payment everyone will receive to help them survive.A UBI.But ask: who decides the amount you get paid each month? Not you. Not the average citizen. It will be decided by:
— tech billionaires
— governments
— corporations
— committees
Another thing — it won't be generous. It will be designed to keep society stable - to keep order at the lowest sustainable cost.UBI won’t create freedom. It will create dependence. It may keep you alive. But not thriving.Relying on billionaire tech leaders or governments to rescue us is not a strategy. It’s surrender.UBI will be a lifeboat... a ration pack.

COMMON ESCAPE PLANS (AND WHY THEY'LL FAIL US)

Retraining
Too slow. AI overtakes.
Starting a business
Too competitive. No customers with money.
Crypto/speculation
Doesn’t create real income.
UBI
Survival, not freedom.
And all rely on a system that is already breaking.

THE TURNING POINT

So where does that leave us?If jobs disappear…
If retraining fails…
If businesses struggle…
If UBI is limited…
Then the real question is:Is there any income model that will still work in this new changing world? That’s what we began investigating. It would need to:

• not rely on employers
• not depend on customers with money
• not collapse with industries
• not be easily replaced by AI

At first, we thought nothing like this existed. Then we found something unexpected.A business model that, whether by design or coincidence, appears unusually well suited to the kind of world AI is creating.Something that operates on a completely different economic logic.

WHAT TO DO NEXT

If this has opened your eyes a little… you are already ahead of most people. But awareness alone won’t protect you.In Part 2, we show a model that has a good chance of remaining viable even as the current system changes or collapses.A model that can even become stronger as traditional structures weaken.Already being used by people who saw the shift early.Part 2 explains it clearly so you can decide for yourself.AI is about to speed up, so preparation really matters now.
